Topical Meds in Breastfeeding, and Iron Supplementation in Exclusively Breastfed Infants

April 22, 2018

We review many topical medications during breastfeeding such as antifungals, antibacterials, topical steroids, iodine, insecticides, hair dyes, and many more. This is followed by a review of studies on routine supplementation of iron in exclusively breastfed infants. Join us!

This was a great podcast. I was so glad to hear the discussion on APNO cream – and the frequency of prescriptions.
I had been wondering about the use of silvadene dressings on damaged nipples, but this also needs a prescription right?
Very interesting discussion on iron supplementation – no higher heme level but the cells were “plumper”, higher MCV. Also giving supplements to infants didn’t seem to improve the iron deficiency for those who were already deficient. WOW. For full term babies…good point. Thanks!
